Key Team Member ProfilesLeonard J. Miller, CPA, MBA, CVA, PFS (Shareholder) is the president and founder of Leonard J. Miller & Associates. Len graduated from the University of Baltimore with a BS in Accounting, Magna cum Laude and received his MBA from Loyola College of Maryland. Len was an auditor with the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and has extensive experience dealing with government contracting issues. While with the DCAA, he served as a specialist in contract claims, forward pricing issues and incurred cost audits. He also worked for a national firm – KPMG as an audit manager and founded the practice based on his extensive audit background. Len taught Cost Accounting and Advanced Auditing for the University of Baltimore and, on behalf of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), he has spoken nationally before various state CPA Associations on many technical topics. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) and is one of thirty-six appointed members of the Joint Trial Board of the AICPA. Len has also served as chairman of the Peer Review Committee, the Auditing Standards Committee, and the By-Laws Committee of the MACPA. Len was the first to receive the MACPA Max Teichmann Award for Outstanding Committee Chairman. He was actively involved with the Vision Project, which had the mission of defining the future of the accounting profession. Len assists clients with government contracting issues, business consulting and tax planning projects that range from buy/sell agreements to mergers and acquisition planning. Len is a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) and a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and has experience in valuing businesses for estate planning, sales, tax, litigation, and many other purposes. He has completed the Wharton School of Business program on Mergers and Acquisitions. He is licensed in life and health insurance and has passed the testing for Registered Investment Advisors. He is a licensed CPA in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. In addition, he has been trained in ISO consulting. Len is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA), and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA). SmartCEO magazine recently named Len one of the Baltimore Area's top 50 SmartCPAs.
Virginia H. Miller, CPA, MBA is a shareholder in the firm and is our Director of Accounting and Auditing. Ginny received an MBA from Loyola College of Maryland and a Bachelor of Business Administration, Cum Laude from Loyola. Ginny has extensive experience working hands-on with client personnel in the role of problem-solver for various accounting and management issues. Within the Firm, she oversees the primary administrative functions and has steered the Firm consistently through unqualified peer reviews. As Director of Accounting and Auditing, Ginny oversees the preparation of all the Firm's accounting engagements and has extensive experience in the construction, manufacturing, distribution and wholesale/retail industries. She has had training in ISO consulting. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA). She is the past President of a non-profit organization. She is also the past Chairman of the Professional Ethics Committee of the MACPA. Ginny has been with the Firm since 1980.
Howard F. Van Gilder, CPA is our Firm's Director of Taxation. He has 32 years of diversified public accounting experience and provides financial and tax planning strategies to both individual and business clients. Howard has taught individual taxation and serves as a consultant on the conversion and implementation of new accounting and inventory systems. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of CPA's (MACPA).
Carol I. Katz, CPA, MS, is our Firm's Deputy Director of Taxation. She graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a BA in Education and has received an MS in Financial Planning from the College of Financial Planning. Her areas of concentration include business taxation and planning as well as individual taxation and estate, financial and retirement planning. She also has assisted non-profit organizations obtain tax-exempt status. She has been a speaker on various tax topics before professional groups and the general public, an instructor for the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA), and has had articles published in local and national media. She is a past board member of the MACPA, has served on all of the MACPA tax committees and is past chairperson of the Taxation and Planning for Estate, Gift, and Trusts Committee and the Advanced Tax Institute Committee. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the MACPA, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA) and the Baltimore Estate Planning Council. Carol has served as Treasurer of the NACVA Maryland Chapter and has served as Treasurer for other non-profit groups. She is a regular guest on WYPR 88.1 FM’s "The Marc Steiner Show" discussing tax and financial planning topics.
Myrna B. Mitnick, CPA, MBA, PFS is a Senior Tax Manager. She specializes in estate, retirement and financial planning, and in the taxation of individuals, estates, trusts and not-for-profit organizations. She received her MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland and her BA Magna cum Laude in Economics from Brandeis University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Myrna is the author of numerous articles on estate and retirement planning issues. She earned both the Personal Financial Specialist and the Investment Advisor Representative designations. She is a member of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA). Myrna currently serves on the Planning Committee for the Advanced Tax Institute and is a member of the Taxation and Planning for Estates, Gifts and Trusts Committee of the MACPA. She is a past PTA president and active in a number of local charitable organizations.
John F. Eikenberg, Jr., CPA, CNA is a Tax Manager and our Network System Administrator. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's College with a BS in Accounting with majors in Business and Finance. John is versatile in Accounting and Tax engagements and supervises our Payroll Department. He is our Information Technology Specialist and helps our clients with their computer hardware and software needs and in addition is a Certified Novell Administrator (CNA). John has extensive government experience having worked for the U.S. Army Audit Agency. John is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA) and has served on the MACPA’s Technology Committee.
Stephanie A. Myers, CPA, MST is a Tax Manager in the Tax Department. She graduated from Villa Julie College with a BS in computer accounting and obtained her Masters of Taxation at the University of Baltimore. Stephanie is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA). She has served on the MACPA's Under 35 Structure and Governance Task Force.
Lorraine S. Leipold, CPA is our Accounting and Auditing Manager. She graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with a BS in accounting. Lorri's career includes employment in both public and industry accounting environments. She has extensive experience in the construction, retail sales, real estate development, rental real estate and non-profit industries. She is a member of the Maryland Association of CPA's (MACPA).
Paula Steber is a Senior Accountant with the Firm. She received her BS in Accounting from the University of Baltimore. Paula has extensive experience with small and medium-sized businesses and has specialized experience in restaurant and construction accounting.
Lisa Karalekas is a Staff Accountant with the Firm. She received her BA from Loyola College. Lisa has extensive government contracting and manufacturing experience. She provides a variety of accounting services to our clients, including preparation of financial statements for small business concerns.
Linda Johnson is a Staff Accountant with the Firm. She received her BS in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Illinois State University. Linda has experience preparing payroll tax returns, financial statements, and corresponding with the IRS on behalf of clients. Other manufacturing experience includes inventory control, costing, and project management.
Anita Clifford, EA is a Staff Accountant in our Tax Department. Anita is an Enrolled Agent registered to practice before the IRS. Anita has an extensive background in taxation with a broad and varied experience base in partnerships and trusts.
Peter Lucas is a Staff Accountant in our Tax Department. Peter attended University of Baltimore and has extensive real estate experience. He provides a variety of tax and accounting services to our clients.
